Together with its institutional partners, FIDES has set up successful microfinance institutions in several countries in Africa and Eastern Europe. The FIDES Group is now engaged in preparatory work for the introduction of basic insurance services to the low-income populations of Namibia. The initiative will begin with funeral, credit life and life insurance during a two-year pilot phase. Project preparation and execution will incorporate deep engagement with the government, regulators, and the Namibian Financial Services Charter Council. FIDES is receiving assistance to establish the basic parameters for the Namibia microinsurance initiative: strategy, market orientation, including products and their pricing, institutional framework and financial scenarios for the two year pilot phase and beyond. The assistance is also contributing to a Namibia microinsurance policy forum, with the involvement the Indian microinsurance pioneer, Vimo SEWA.
